Fact of the Day- Foods invented during the Great Depression (11/18/16)

Surprisingly, many foods that we still consume today were invented during the Great Depression, the time when many Americans struggled to provide for their families.
Below I have compiled a short list of the foods invented during the 1930's.

Ritz crackers were introduced to Philadelphia and Baltimore markets on November 21, 1934. Their 84th birthday is coming up soon! Originally, a box of Ritz crackers sold for 19 cents!

Spam was introduced by the Hormel Foods Corporation in 1937, but Spam did not really become popular until the 1940's, when the war caused a difficulty in delivering meat. Soldiers often consumed Spam during the war.

Bisquick was invented in 1930 and was introduced to grocery store shelves in 1931.

  1. It is interesting to see how long some of these well-known brands have been available.
